Yorkshire Ripper: The Secret Murders: The True Story of Serial Killer Peter Sutcliffe’s Reign of Terror Customer Reviews

:
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Tom Wescott -- The most significant book written yet on the Yorkshire Ripper murders : And important book. Unlike the title might suggest, this is not a sensationalistic conspiracy book by any means, but a painstakingly researched work that proves beyond any shadow of a doubt (at least to my mind) that Peter Sutcliffe murdered and attacked far more people than for whom he's been convicted, and that this fact was known to the authorities at the time but covered up to suit their own purposes. This book is a must-read for any true crime reader. If you think you know the story of the Yorkshire Ripper, think again. What's been reported along 'official' circles was just scratching the surface. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2015 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Plato Closeted -- Very Informative : This version of the Ripper's story is very detailed and informative. It's amazing that several books on the exact same case can be written and yet each one is so different. I feel like this author was either close to these events or did an awesome amount of research. If you don't know this case read this book. ( Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2020 )
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars from RICHARD J LOCK -- Three Stars : Gruesome story ( Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2018 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Christine Lawrence-Bell -- Full court press : As a woman who lived through the time of fear as a teenager this brought back shocking memories of the news of the day when we came home straight from school, never ventured out alone and lived from daily headline to headline. This book catalogues the literally blow by blow account of Britain 's most prolific killer in thorough detail and casts the very real shadow of police ineptitude and subsequent cover up. Children in the USA who learned of JFK 's death in school will be dead before the Warren Commission files become accessible to the public in 2075 - I can only hope to be alive in 2045 when the full unredacted version of the Ripper police enquiries are made available. • 1.0 out of 5 stars from JackR -- Long-winded : A very tedious read. More about the flawed organization of police forces than the dramatic hunt for this demon serial killer. Although relevant, the organization details could have been covered in one, pithy paragraph. ( Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2016 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Damaskcat -- Yorkshire Ripper :The Secret Murders : I remember following the hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper at the time but I had completely forgotten what a fiasco his trial turned out to be with the prosecution doing a neat job of trying to prove the defence's case for them until the judge put a stop to it. It is down to the jury to decide whether a defendant is mad or bad. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 13, 2015 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Vicuña -- If you're interested in justice and what it means, read this exceptional book : This book is astounding and unbelievable in almost equal measure. Astounding because it draws together facts about attacks on ( mainly) women throughout the UK from the mid 1960s until the early 1980s. Over 20 of those attacks resulted in death and were classed as murder and there's an equal number of attempted murders. What's unbelievable is that despite the evidence, the majority of these attacks were not attributed to Peter Sutcliffe, popularly known as the Yorkshire Ripper. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from SIRHC -- Smokescreen for a Serial Killer. UK author examines unsolved murders linked to Yorkshire Ripper. : A Review by Dr Katherine Ramsland of our book. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Crafty65 -- A Very Disturbing Read.....but not for the obvious reason. : This book is disturbing, not just because of the exploits of Sutcliffe. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 14, 2021 )
  • 1.0 out of 5 stars from Michael Tarrant Eldicott -- Awful nonsence no proof : the product itself is really bad, I use better paper to polish my rusty sheriffs badge. as for the content. the authors are basically tying to saying that the Yorkshire ripper murdered anyone that was killed a similar way to his known victims but without any evidence at all, once they have come up with a new victim them it is taken as proved throughout the rest of the book. An interesting part of the book was looking into his motivation, something that was not always clear as not all the known victims were prostitutes. But to put any murder down the Yorkshire ripper that matches their theory of his motive is quite plainly daft. this could of been a welcome addition to any of the other books on the subject if each case they come up with was studied in great detail, but they are not. The gaps in between the attacks and murders have not been fully explained and I was hoping this book would shed some light on this but it doesn't.
